The municipal election on Oct. 25, 2010 was pivotal.
In the runup to the key incinerator votes in June 2009. a need was identified to harness the anger and frustration and ensure that it was channelled into changing the political equation in Durham Region.
An extensive environmental questionnaire was prepared by current DurhamCLEAR president Doug Anderson with the financial support of CAWDREC, and was distributed to all incumbent councillors in early June 2009 prior to the incinerator votes. As new candidate emerged through 2010, they were asked to complete the same questionnaire. In total more than 130 candidates completed it.
All of these answers were posted on a public website, DurhamElection2010, as they were received.
More than 15,000 people visited the site in the month prior to the election
Videos of debates with some of the candidates are also posted. Results of previous elections for the incumbents are included along with their campaign expences.
The site is now archived. It is all available for public viewing including the results.
